A shopkeeper is in hospital with facial injuries after an incident in their store.
Evidence bags were piled up in a graveyard near the Sussex Sweet Shop in Broadwater, Worthing, yesterday evening after the assault as officers cordoned off the area.
Police say they received the first report of an altercation involving the staff member and two men at around 2.30pm.
Officers closed off the pavement and shop in Broadwater Street East soon after, with paramedics taking the injured shopkeeper to hospital for treatment.
Detectives were called in to find out what happened, placing what appeared to be a till in a nearby graveyard into an evidence bag - surrounded by blue tape and an officer on constant watch.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "An increased police presence is expected in the area at this time while enquiries are ongoing.
"Any information is asked to be reported to police online or by calling 101 quoting reference 752 of 04/06."
