A woman who scaled scaffolding was taken to hospital.

Specialist officers and paramedics descended on Church Road, Hove, yesterday evening as they responded to a concern for a woman's welfare.

Traffic built up on Church Road and nearby streets while the road was closed.

The road closed shortly after 5pm and officers negotiated with the woman, who was on top of scaffolding, for several hours.

A Sussex Police spokesman said the woman was taken to hospital following the incident.

The spokesman said: “Police were called to a concern for a woman’s welfare in Church Road, Hove shortly after 5pm on Thursday (May 30).

“Officers engaged with the woman, and she was taken to safety at 8.50pm.

“She was taken to hospital.”
