Police have closed off a major road amid an ongoing incident.

Specialist officers and paramedics are at the scene in Church Road, Hove, this evening as they respond to a concern for a woman's welfare.

Traffic is building up on Church Road and nearby streets as west end of the road, near the Tesco supermarket, is closed.

A number of emergency services vehicles are on the scene including paramedics wearing harnesses.

The road closed shortly after 5pm and officers have been negotiating with the woman, who is on top of scaffolding, since.

Buses are being diverted via nearby Blatchington Road, including routes 1, 6 and 49.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: “Emergency services are responding to a concern for a woman’s welfare in Church Road, Hove, which was reported shortly after 5pm on Thursday, May 30.

“An increased police presence is expected in the area while the incident is ongoing.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience.

“This is an isolated incident and poses no threat to the wider community.“
