Nominations are now open for the Teacher of the Year award.

The competition aims to find the best teacher in the city to award their hard work over the last academic year.

People can nominate their favourite teacher from any teaching facility, with the winner set to be given a Brighton Gift Card as a prize.

The card, which can be spent with over 50 businesses in the city, was launched by not-for-profit group Brilliant Brighton, also known as Brighton Business Improvement District, along with the company Tillo in 2023.

It is part of the Town and City Gift Card concept from Miconex, who create gift card programmes for business communities.

The competition, sponsored by GiftRound, offers the winning teacher a £500 Brighton Gift Card.

A £250 gift card will also be given to one of the individuals who nominates them and an additional £500 will be given to the winning teacher's school.

Nominations can be made at teacheroftheyear.co.uk.

Primary school teachers, secondary school teachers, special educational needs teachers, early years teachers, teaching assistants and headteachers can all be nominated.

Gavin Stewart, CEO at Brilliant Brighton said: “Brighton is a unique city packed with amazing people and businesses, and is also home to many fantastic schools.

"The Teacher of the Year competition is a chance for parents and guardians, colleagues and friends to nominate the teachers who are making a difference in our city.

"It takes 2 minutes to nominate your Teacher of the Year, and we hope to see lots of nominations from Brighton.”

Colin Munro, the managing director of Miconex, said: "Schools, and teachers, are at the heart of our communities, and our Teacher of the Year competition is a celebration of the teachers who are going above and beyond to educate, help and inspire young people.

"We'll be telling the stories of the nominations as they come in, giving teachers the recognition they deserve."

Entries close at midnight on August 31.

The winning teacher will be announced by Brilliant Brighton in September 2024 ahead of the new school year.
