Our camera club members get out and about across the county taking beautiful shots of the beauty of vast Sussex, from the rolling hills of the Downs to the dramatic coastline.

But they also love getting up close and personal with the minutiae which doesn’t often get time in the spotlight.

Suzi Sullivan has been capturing Crawley’s creepy crawlies beautiful with some close-up shots.

The humble ladybird is popular – as bugs go – but few people pause to take in their intricate beauty.

The spots they have can help when identifying which species they are and here in the UK we have the seven-spot and two-spot varieties.

But there are 47 species of ladybird currently resident in Britain, ranging from black with red spots, to bright yellow.

Ladybirds have gained a reputation as “cute” creatures, but they are carnivores with big appetites.

A seven-spot ladybird can devour more than 5,000 aphids in its lifetime.
