Two people have been rescued after being trapped by the tide.

Eastbourne lifeboat was called out by Solent Coastguard at 7.22am on Sunday to help the pair who had been cut off by the tide at Beachy Head.

One was found on the lighthouse and the other on the beach.

The crew gave them both life jackets and took them back to the lifeboat station "unhurt and very thankful".

A spokesman for the RNLI said: "When along the coast, please remember to check tide times. In the event of being cut off, stay out of the water when possible and call for help."

People heading out to sea are advised to have a charged mobile phone in a waterproof pouch in case of emergencies.

They should also let someone on land know what time they intend to be back.

Anyone struggling out at sea should call the coastguard on 999 immediately.
