On the edge of the city is a peaceful spot to embrace the glorious spring sunshine.

Stanmer Wood, in Stanmer, on the edge of Brighton, has five kilometres of open and wooded land for walkers and is home to a range of wildlife.

The village is home to a church, tea rooms and a donkey well and wheelhouse, built in the 16th century which used to be where residents accessed water.

Camera club snapper Dave Whitchurch had a stroll through the woods on a sunny afternoon this month.

He captured the beautiful purple carpet of bluebells in the wood and some remarkable close-ups of vibrant magenta rhododendron flowers.

Dave also found beauty in the unusual with his snaps of fungi growing on trees and in mosses on the forest floor.

With a canopy cover, Stanmer Woods will be a great place to see the sunlight through the trees and shelter from the heat of the day this weekend.
