A man found dead behind the wheel of a car after it crashed into a ditch near a wealthy Sussex village had been shot.
A man, in his 20s, was found in a car which crashed near Midhurst on Monday (April 6).
He was the only occupant of the vehicle which had careered off the road.
Sussex Police closed the road while investigation works were in progress. The matter will now be passed to the coroner.
A spokesman for the force said: “Emergency services were called to a report of a car having left the carriageway of the A286 near Midhurst at around 6am on Monday, May 6.

“A man in his 20s, the only occupant of the vehicle, was sadly confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
“The road was closed in both directions while an investigation was carried out. A report will be prepared for HM Coroner.”
The road has since re-opened.
