A girl has been taken to hospital after emergency services responded to an incident on the seafront.
Police, the coastguard and ambulances were called to the scene on Brighton beach at around 1pm today after reports of a person entering the sea.
At just after 2pm, police confirmed the girl, 14, was pulled from the water and detained under the Mental Health Act.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Emergency services responded to a report at around 1pm, April 26 that a person had entered the sea on Brighton Seafront.
“At just after 2pm, a 14-year-old girl was pulled from the water and detained under the Mental Health Act.
“She has been taken to hospital for treatment.”
A spokesman for HM Coastguard said: “We assisted Sussex Police with an incident at Brighton beach this afternoon.”
