Another public toilet has opened in Brighton with plans for more.
A Changing Places facility is now open at the One Garden Brighton in Stanmer Park.
It follows last week’s reopening of the toilets in Pavilion Gardens which had been shut since the autumn of 2022.
The toilets had to be closed due to increasing running costs and antisocial behaviour in the area.
More will open on the new Hove Beach Park site and at The Level.
The new facilities in Stanmer Park have a height-adjustable bench, ceiling track hoist, height-adjustable sink and extra space for carers.
Maintained by Plumpton College, the new toilets will be open between 9.30am and 5pm during the summer and 9.30am and 4.30pm in the winter. Anyone wishing to use them will need to ask for the key in The Market inside One Garden.
The toilets have motion sensor lighting, taps and hand dryers, reducing electricity and water consumption. These have been funded from the city council’s Carbon Neutral Fund.
The facilities have been installed with support from Plumpton College, in association with Muscular Dystrophy UK and have been funded by government.
Two more Changing Places toilets will be opening at Preston Park and St Ann’s Well Gardens in late spring or early summer.
Councillor Tim Rowkins, chairman of the city environment, South Downs and the sea committee, said: “These new facilities look fantastic and I’m pleased we’ve been able to open them ahead of what will be another busy summer for Stanmer Park and the One Garden Brighton. Changing Places toilets are a lifeline for a lot of families.
“Refurbishing and reopening our public toilets has been a priority for us and I was very happy to see those at the Royal Pavilion Gardens cleaned up and reopened last week.
“Last month we approved measures that will mean the Black Rock, Greenleas, and Hollingbury Park toilets are open year-round and we’ll soon see facilities opened on the new Hove Beach Park site and The Level."
