Flights across the globe - including to the USA - will be up for grabs at just £1 as part of a huge offer from a national airline.

Tickets for British Airways flights will be on sale for just £1 as part of a massive promotion encouraging people to take to the skies.

Any flight or holiday is eligible for the scheme, regardless of seating class or time of day - passengers just have to be a member of the airline's Executive Club loyalty scheme.

The £1 cost is offset by Avios points.

Until now, the maximum discount to be paid after Avios varied based on multiple factors, whereas the airline is now giving customers the option to reduce their booking to £1 using Avios.

Using Avios is different to booking a reward seat, which there are a limited number of at a reduced rate - instead there is much more flexibility.

British Airways operates routes to America, the Caribbean and much of Europe.

Colm Lacy, British Airways’ chief commercial officer said: “We’ve listened to our members’ feedback and we’re really excited to be introducing this latest update for them.

"We know that most of our customers choose the lowest cash amount when it comes to making Reward Flight bookings, so we anticipate this to be a popular option for those using Avios part payment too.

"Ultimately, our goal is to keep adding more choice and flexibility for Members.”

Part payment can also be used for flights operated by American Airlines between the UK and North America, and British Airways codeshares with some partners.
