The M25 will close again next month for a full weekend.

The closure, which is part of the £317 million Junction 10 improvement scheme, will be in place from 9pm on May 10 until 6am on May 13.

National Highways said the decision was made after "the success of the first closure" in March, which allowed for the successful demolition of a bridge.

The closure also meant that teams could install a new gantry, which is an overhead bridge-like structure that holds equipment such as signals or cameras.

According to National Highways, the next closure will allow teams to place concrete beams for the eastern gyratory bridge to be installed as well as another large gantry.

These works will take place between junctions nine and ten, with diversions in place.

More information about the work and diversion routes can be found at https://nationalhighways.co.uk/our-roads/south-east/m25-junction-10/.

Jonathan Wade, National Highways senior project manager, said: "This is far from a repeat of the previous closure, as the alternative routes are longer and will be different for over-height vehicles and all other traffic.

“Drivers listened to our advice last time which reduced motorway traffic levels by over two-thirds and meant delays were limited.

“Our advice again is please only travel if absolutely necessary and make sure you give yourself extra time if you do choose to use the M25.”

This closure is the second of five planned for this year.

Three more are expected between July and December however the exact dates have not yet been confirmed.

The date of the third closure is expected to be announced after this second one has been completed.

National Highways said that this phase of the project is "crucial to maintain progress" on the scheme, which should be finished by summer next year.

These works are part of the government's £24 billion "Road Investment Strategy" (RIS2) which aims to create a road network across the country that is safe, reliable, and efficient for all users.
