Flytipping on two major A-roads has been cleared up by a council.

Arun District Council said that it recently responded to reports of this littering on the A27 and A259.

A spokesperson for the council said: ''We are serious about keeping our district clean, tidy, and green.

"There are sections of these highways that require traffic management, and we often work alongside other agencies doing work to keep road closures to a minimum.

"Last week, Biffa (the council's contractors) were working in conjunction with highway’s contractors to undertake litter picking, street sweeping and removing flytipping on the closed section of the A259 in Rustington."

Since the flytipping incidents, the council has reminded people that it costs money for the council to sort and that it is also illegal.

It is also reminded people that it is anti-social, can harm wildlife and can be a fire hazard. 

Flytipping can result in a fine and/or prison sentence.
