A section of Newhaven Fort previously closed to the public is set to welcome visitors for the first time.
When the restoration is complete and the fort reopens in February 2025, the battery observation post will be open to the public.
The lookout dates back to 1901 when the fort was rebuilt with new guns.
It was said to be the "brain of the big guns" where soldiers would be in constant communication with the gun crews and intelligence centres, working together to keep enemies at bay.

A spokesman for Newhaven Fort said: "Introducing our battery observation post – which has never been open to the public before.
"As part of our £7.5m restoration, the battery observation post will finally be opened for visitors to explore, offering stunning views out to sea."
The fort closed in February and restoration began in March.
Work on the 160-year-old fort is expected to last all year.
During this time visitors will not be allowed to the site.
