Children were among those taken to hospital after a five-vehicle crash.
There was travel chaos this morning as the A27 eastbound was closed on a section between Devil's Dyke Interchange and Patcham Interchange.
There were large queues towards Portslade due to the incident.
Six people, including three children, were treated on scene before being taken to hospital.
Sussex Police said minor injuries were reported from the incident which happened at around 8.30am.
The section of the road opened after several hours following recovery.
A spokesman from South East Coast Ambulance Service said: "Ambulance crews attended the scene following report of an RTC on the A27 near Brighton at approximately 8.30am today.
"Six patients were assessed and treated before being taken to hospital, three adults and three children. Three further patients were checked over and discharged from our care at the scene."
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said they were called to a five-car accident on the slip road from the A27 to the A23 at around 8.45am.
