A man has appeared in court charged with murder after an elderly man's body was found in a block of flats.
Sukhjit Bains has been charged with murder after a 72-year-old man was found in St Botolph's Road, Worthing, on Friday evening.
Bains, 46, appeared at Crawley Magistrates' Court this morning to answer the charges.
He has been remanded in custody and will appear at Lewes Crown Court tomorrow.
Sussex Police maintained their presence in St Botolph's Road over the weekend as they continued their investigation.
Residents said they were "shocked" by the man's death which took place on a quiet, residential street with care homes and retirement flats.
Sussex Police Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Amanda Zinyama said: “Our thoughts continue to be with the family at this extremely difficult time.
“Sukhjit Bains has been charged with murder.
“Further witnesses or anyone with information about what happened is asked to come forward to Sussex Police, and quote Operation Orchid.”
