The demolition of a long empty house to make way for new flats will start soon.

Contractors have put up hoarding around Ashcroft House in Shoreham ahead of its demolition.

Adur District Council secured planning permission in 2022 for the construction of 44 new energy-efficient council flats on the land in Kingston Lane, to house Adur residents who are over 55.

Air source heat pumps will be installed in the homes as well as solar panels and there will be spaces to grow food.

“We know that members of the community are concerned by antisocial behaviour by trespassers there and that the building’s decline is damaging the look of the area.

“Removing the building should solve both of those issues and also allow for the redevelopment of the site.”

Demolition should begin in the next few weeks.
