An explosion rocked the walls of nearby homes during a dramatic motorhome blaze.

The caravan went up in flames on an industrial estate in Littlehampton last night.

Neighbour Julie Fabian said the boom "frightened the life out". "My house shook," she said

Firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 11pm. 

Toby Hall posted online at the time of the fire: "There is a massive fire. A caravan has exploded. Stay safe."

Neighbours in nearby Wick said they heard the explosion from Lineside Industrial Estate and their walls vibrated.

Lucy Batchelor said: "There was a very loud bang. It shook my house."

Hannah Simpson, who had a view of the fire from her back garden in Clun Road, said: "I heard the loud explosion and it shook the house."

Video footage from the scene shows the caravan ablaze before firefighters arrived.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire engines to the scene from Littlehampton and East Preston.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said: "Last night, March 6, at 11.05pm we responded to a fire at Fort Road, Littlehampton.

"Upon arrival firefighters were confronted with one caravan that was well alight. 

"Fortunately there were no casualties. The cause of the fire is unknown."
