A teenager whose house party spiralled out of control after it was shared on Snapchat said it was only supposed to be a small gathering of friends.

The A-level student told MailOnline he had invited 40 friends over to his house in Worthing while his father was in but described his horror after strangers began to turn up to the property in Poulters Lane.

More than 200 teenagers descended on the street on Friday night and had to be dispersed by megaphone-wielding police officers.

Neighbours described chaotic scenes as revellers were left walking the streets.

Officers made announcements for the children to disperse from patrolling vans as officers flooded the area.

A dispersal order was put in place after the teens turned up to the party and the situation worsened.

An 18-year-old man was attacked in the aftermath of the party and cars were damaged.

“I asked people to come round about 8pm and at first everything was calm, and we were having a good time,” the teenager told MailOnline.

“But after a few minutes there was knock after knock at the door and more and more people that I've never met were starting to arrive.

“My sister was answering the door and having to politely ask people who were not on my list to leave.

“By 8.30pm someone went up to the hallway upstairs and saw from the window that the crowd was going all the way up the road.”

The 16-year-old, who attends a sixth form college in Brighton, and his father tried to get people to leave but he said some were aggressive and had been drinking.

It was at this point they called the police.

He told MailOnline he thought many of the partygoers were from another college.

“I've had lots of parties at the house but something like this has never happened before,” he told the news outlet.

The teen’s mum, who was on holiday in Portugal at the time of the incident, said Friday’s events had upset her son and thanked the police for their response.

The teenager’s father said his tyres had been slashed on his car with a glass bottle during the mele.

He told MailOnline: “My car had its tyres slashed and there was a broken bottle lying nearby. It was an ugly situation but the police dealt with it well.”

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of a group of around 100 to 200 people causing anti-social behaviour following a party at an address in Poulters Lane, Worthing at 8.30pm on Friday, February 23.

“Officers were quickly on scene and a Section 34 Dispersal Order was authorised, giving officers and designated police staff the power to disperse individuals behaving in an anti-social manner.

“The party was dispersed, and the area was cleared.

“Following the incident, police received a report of an 18-year-old man who was assaulted at around 10.30pm in South Street, Tarring.

“As a result of his injuries, he was taken to hospital and enquiries are ongoing to identify the suspect.”
