New council homes will be built near Worthing town centre.

The borough council has secured a £770,000 government grant from Homes England to help fund 11 new "energy-efficient" council homes.

The flats, which will be in Victoria Road, will be for families with children on the council housing register.

They will be built to Passivhaus standards, which means they will stay warm during winters and cool during summers with minimal energy input.

This means lower energy bills for residents.

The Argus: The empty RAF cadets building that was once on the site has been demolished

Old Royal Air Force Air Cadets temporary buildings on the site have been demolished.

The council will now choose a construction company to begin building the flats.

A spokesman for Worthing Borough Council said: "There are around 1,900 households on the housing register in Worthing and these new flats will mean we can help local families who are at risk of becoming homeless, including those we are currently having to temporarily house outside the borough.

"Families who we could otherwise have to place in costly B&Bs will instead move into these properties for a number of months while we help them find more permanent homes.

"We hope the first families will be able to move into the flats in the summer of 2025."
