Two people have been arrested after reports they threatened to kill someone in the city centre.
Armed police officers were outside Waitrose in Western Road, Brighton, at around 5pm yesterday and detained the pair.
It was alleged that a man and woman were threatening people at an address with knives.
Following a search of the area, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s were arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place and for making threats to kill.
An investigation is ongoing but police said there is no threat to the public.
A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: “Police responded to a disturbance in Landsdowne Place, Hove, at around 5pm on Monday (February 19).
“It was reported that a man and woman were in possession of knives and threatening residents at an address.

“Following a search of the area, a man in his 30s and a woman in her 40s were arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place and for making threats to kill.
“They have been transported to custody and an investigation is underway.
“This is believed to be an isolated incident with no risk to the wider community and we are not seeking any further individuals in connection with the investigation.”
