Sussex Police will spend £1.4 million in a bid to tackle serious violence and antisocial behaviour.

The government is giving every police force in England and Wales a share of more than £66 million to ramp up patrols in areas plagued by antisocial behaviour.

Each of the 43 forces will receive at least £1 million, with some larger forces receiving substantially more.

Sussex Police have been allocated £1.4 million for the 2024 financial year and are now working out how to spend the money.

A spokesman for the force said: “Tackling antisocial behaviour and serious violence in our communities is a key focus for Sussex Police and we welcome this latest funding announcement.

“Work is already well under way to finalise our plan in line with national timescales.

“Previous funding has already been used to combat serious violence, with resources focused on identifying and policing hotspot areas alongside our partners.

“This approach has seen significant reductions in reports of violent crime in hotspot areas across the county.

“A harm-centred and intelligence-led approach is key to targeting our resources where they can have the greatest impact and will form a major part of our plans when allocating this latest round of funding, which now incorporates tackling antisocial behaviour, as well as serious violence.”
