A controversial chain coffee shop in a village has closed for good.
Costa Coffee in High Street, Rottingdean, sparked much debate when it first opened in 2017.
Villagers said the shop would be harmful to nearby independent businesses.
Residents also raised concerns about parking in the area.
Now, its seven-year lease is up and Costa Coffee has decided not to renew.
There has been a mixed response to the news of the closure, but many believe it will be good for independents in the village including the new coffee shop called Ground on the corner.
Writing on Facebook, Mike Sexton said: "At least the pavement outside should be free of vehicles now."
Sam Fish added: "That is good news for small independent places. Get rid of the chains."
Lee Miller, who lives in Brighton, said: "I went to the new coffee shop on the corner. For takeaway coffee after my run. It was lovely."
Dirk Mitchell added: "There are loads of places to grab a coffee in Rottingdean. This is good news for other small businesses."
But some mourned the loss of Costa.
John Olley, who lives in Rottingdean, said: "I think it’s a shame it’s shut."
Costa Coffee was contacted for comment.
