A kebab shop owner recovering from a mini stroke says he is devastated that the front window of his takeaway has been smashed.
Hakan Og, 40, returned to work on February 4 after two weeks off sick due to the sudden illness, despite doctors warning he should rest.
But Hakan, who runs Worthing Kebab House and Pizza in Teville Road, Worthing, wanted to get back to serve his customers.
“I didn’t want to get a sick note, I just wanted to work,” he said.
“I finished at just after midnight and came back to open again on Monday afternoon, but was devastated to see the window smashed.
“It feels like it's stuck in my heart, I can’t describe it. It makes me sick because business is not as good as it used to be.”
Hakan said that it is just the second time in the ten years he has run the takeaway that this has happened.
“Everyone feels sad for us when they come in. It’s going to cost £1,532 to fix,” he said.
“I am good to the people, I make sure that people who come in and can’t afford to pay do not go hungry.”
Hakan, who lives in nearby King Edward’s Avenue, spent thousands of pounds refurbishing the takeaway in 2022.
He says the cause or reason for the vandalism is unknown.
“It happened between 12.30am on Monday and early Monday afternoon, but we have no idea what actually happened,” he said. "We didn’t deserve this.”
Sussex Police are asking anyone with information or who saw the incident to come forward.
