A man was arrested following reports of a person with a knife at a university campus.
Officers received a report from security at the University of Sussex at around 11.30am on Wednesday, February 7, with police carrying out an extensive search of the area.
Armed police were reported on campus by students as officers carried out their search.
However, the individual was not immediately located.
Following wider enquiries, a 22-year-old man from Brighton was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and interviewed.
The investigation concluded there appeared to be no malicious intent and a community resolution was administered.
A police spokesman said that the individual will be educated on the issues around knife crime, including the dangers of carrying a knife in public.
