A Sussex Police officer tried to kiss a vulnerable woman while taking a statement from her at her home.

PC Steve Green tried to pursue a relationship with the woman whom he met while on duty in Eastbourne.

PC Green was found to have breached police standards and would have been sacked had he not already quit the force.

A disciplinary hearing was told that PC Green, 38, met the vulnerable woman while on duty in February 2022.

He later went on to contact her by phone and attempted to pursue a relationship with her.

After going to her home to take a statement from her, PC Green tried to kiss her.

A two-day misconduct hearing at Sussex Police HQ in Lewes heard he had breached professional standards of behaviour.

Detective Superintendent Jon Robeson, the force’s deputy head of professional standards, said: “Police officers must behave in a manner that does not discredit the police service or undermine public confidence, whether on or off duty.

“We expect the highest possible standards of our officers and staff and we take any report of inappropriate behaviour extremely seriously.

“This officer’s behaviour is a violation of the trust that the public put in the police to serve and protect them.

“He has not only let down the public but also his colleagues who carry out an enormous amount of good work with victims of serious offences every day.”

PC Green was also added to the College of Policing barred list and will be banned from rejoining the force in the future.
