Emergency services were called to reports of a man in difficulty in the sea.
Police, coastguard and ambulance crews attended Brighton seafront near the i360 yesterday afternoon at around 2.20pm.
Crews searched the area between the Palace Pier and West Pier after a call came in that someone needed help.
The person was found safely and passed on to ambulance crews.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "Police were called to Madeira Drive in Brighton at around 2.45pm yesterday to concerns for a man.
"Emergency services attended the scene and he was taken to hospital for treatment."

A spokeswoman for the coastguard said: "HM Coastguard has been responding to an incident in the Brighton Palace Pier area this afternoon.
"Shoreham and Newhaven Coastguard rescue teams were sent to the scene alongside Sussex Police and the South East Coast Ambulance Service."
Sussex Police left the scene at around 6pm.
