Passengers are being warned to check their train journeys tomorrow and Friday as strong winds will lead to cancellations.
Southern Rail said high winds are expected to disrupt its coastal network, including services between Brighton and Worthing, Brighton, Eastbourne and Hastings
Trains may be delayed, cancelled or revised.
A spokesman for Govia Thameslink Railway, the operator in charge of Southern services, said: “High winds and heavy rain are expected across some coastal routes from Thursday, February 8, until late evening on Friday, February 9.
“Some areas along the coast will see wind speeds of up to 50 to 55mph.
“Please allow plenty of extra time to reach your destination and check live journey planners before you depart.”
Govia said its Sussex coastal routes are lined by huge numbers of trees and although these are assessed regularly, even one tree can cause significant disruption when it falls onto the track.
Specialist teams would need to attend and make sure a tree is removed and that any other nearby trees have not been affected.
Debris may be blown onto the line, often from surrounding properties.
Speed restrictions may be put in place to allow drivers to stop in time if there are obstructions on the line. Routes with overhead wires may also be affected by high wind speeds.
