An East Sussex shop has been named as one of the best artisan bakeries in the whole of the UK for 2024.
Poppyseed Bakery in Eastbourne was included in a list by the publication British Baker in their Bakers’ Dozen 2024.
Discussing the list, the editor of British Baker, Amy North said: "Each of the 13 bakeries on the list has been recognised by industry experts and their peers as a beacon of dedication, passion, and skill, as demonstrated through lovingly handcrafted products and the people who make them."

What did British Baker say about Poppyseed Bakery?
Writing about Poppyseed Bakery in Eastbourne, the publication said: "Flavour is the name of the game at Poppyseed Bakery, which promises to have something to tickle everyone’s taste buds from apple crunch muffins to award-winning sourdough.
"In fact, the bakery has taken home four Britain’s Best Loaf trophies over the years.
"The business was established by Lee and Kirsty Smith in 2003 as Bexhill Farm Kitchen, changing its name to Poppyseed Bakery in 2016.
"It has shops in Eastbourne and Bexhill, adding a new one to its estate in late 2023, from which it serves a variety of artisan breads, cakes and tasty treats."
Customers were also complimentary of the bakery, as it has earned a 4/5 score on Tripadvisor from 44 reviews.
One reviewer shared: "A lovely little bakery. Good selection of breads and cakes. Rolls are between 50p and 70p. Sunflower, sesame, multiseed, cheese, plain, olive and herb flavours. They also do filled rolls/baguettes."

Another posted: "Best bakery in Eastbourne and the sourdough bread is possibly the best in the UK. Award winning we understand.
"They have a small range of cakes and pies etc but they are all exceptional. As their shops are within a short distance we are normally buying bread and cakes every couple of days."
Meanwhile, another wrote: "Have stopped by here for tasty snacks a few times - VERY GOOD quality. Nice bread too - which a few other restaurants in town use, so must be good!"
