Two public tennis courts have reopened after being refurbished.

The courts at Church House Grounds in Church Road, Worthing, and Buckingham Park in Upper Shoreham Road, Shoreham, were given a "new lease of life".

This included a complete resurfacing, new nets and gate-access technology to make it easier for players to find, book and get on the court.

The joint project between Adur and Worthing Council and the Lawn Tennis Association has made the courts more accessible to the public.

The project cost £253,000 and was funded by the councils, the government and the LTA.

At the moment, temporary lines have been painted on the courts, however the full repainting is scheduled for spring when the weather improves.

Councillor Emma Evans, Adur's cabinet member for the environment and leisure, said: "The tennis facilities at Buckingham Park have always been well used so it's brilliant that the courts have revived following the renovation works.

“On behalf of the community, I would like to thank the LTA tennis foundation for its large input towards the works."

Councillor Rita Garner, Worthing's cabinet member for culture and leisure, said: “It's fantastic that the all-new tennis facilities at Church House Grounds are now bookable and ready for action.

“It's vital that our communities have sporting opportunities available to them to not only to enjoy the physical and mental benefits, but potentially release a hidden talent or passion for a game they may not have played before."

More information about the tennis courts, including how to book, can be found at https://www.lta.org.uk/book.

Through the LTA's parks tennis project, the organisation will be working with the councils and clubs to encourage residents to use the revamped facilities.

The tennis courts will also hold a free community slot from 9am to 11am on weekdays, which can be booked at the courts.

Outside these hours, the courts can be booked via the LTA Play Tennis website for £8.50 per hour. An annual household pass is also available for regular players at £57.
