Night marshals are patrolling Crawley town centre at weekends to improve safety.
The team operates from 8pm to 4am on Friday and Saturday nights.
The marshals support the police and help deal with incidents. They also help door staff at pubs and clubs.

Crawley Police said the teams are made up of "specially trained security staff" who offer "an additional visible presence" across the town.
A spokesman said: "Street marshals are here to help you. The team are linked closely with police officers who can respond to incidents as necessary, with marshals there to spot vulnerabilities, anybody who looks at risk of falling victim to criminality or needs medical assistance."
Other parts of Sussex also have night marshals, including Eastbourne and Brighton.
