Since they were boarded up, residents have voiced their worries about the city's future on social media.
Laura Jenner said: "East Street looks nothing like it used to, a thriving hub of shops.
"Extortionate parking fees, dirty streets, huge business rates and it’s hard to get into town for visitors. It’s cheaper to open in London and stay open than here."
Neil Bennett said: "It’s cheaper to drive to Bluewater and stay all day than to park in Brighton."
Online shopping was also blamed for the closures.
Jamie Green said: "Shoppers have put immense power in the hands of Amazon, ASOS, Boohoo etc etc.
"No one should be surprised that the high street is dying rapidly. If you want the high street back, stop giving the online retailers your money."
Cazz Trawally said: "Use it if you don't want to loose it."
Estate agent’s GCW is now listing the unit for let, with a total 1,576 square feet ground floor and a basement of 976 square feet.
