Police have released a photo of Matthew Pahlavan, who has been given two years in prison for the prolonged abuse of a former girlfriend.

Pahlavan, 41, from Hove, told the woman he was going to kill her and that he would “be the one to smash a mirror in your face” when she tried to break up with him.

She worked for Pahlavan at Truemans Estate Agents, in Church Road, Hove, cleaning properties he managed.

The abuse spanned from February to September last year and included a physical attack when he poked the woman in the chest and grabbed her forearm, both of which resulted in bruising.

Pahlavan pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to assault by beating, putting a person in fear of violence by harassment and sending communications with intent to cause distress or anxiety.

He was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay a £250 fee to the woman. He was also given a restraining order.

Judge Martin Huseiyn told Pahlavan: “There is little evidence of remorse. I don’t think there is strong evidence of rehabilitation. You remain a danger to this, or any other woman you have a relationship with.

“It’s all about sexual or gendered domination. It portrays an attitude about how you might treat other women.”
