A body was pulled from the sea as part of a huge emergency services response for a missing person.
Emergency services received a report of a body in the sea at Shoreham Harbour at around 1.30pm yesterday.
A police helicopter, coastguard teams, and Shoreham RNLI searched for the missing person. Secamb was also in attendance.
Sussex Police confirmed that a body was recovered later in the afternoon.
The force said the person’s next of kin had been informed.
A spokeswoman said: “Police received a report of a body in the sea at Shoreham Harbour at about 1.30pm on Friday, January 5.
“The body was recovered with the assistance of Coastguard and lifeboat crews.
“The investigation is ongoing and the coroner’s officer has been informed.
“No further information is available at this time.”
An area of the beach and walkway above was cordoned off during the search.
Shoreham RNLI launched its all weather lifeboat and smaller inshore lifeboat in the search.
Sussex Police have not revealed the age or identity of the person found at Shoreham but The Argus can confirm that this incident is separate to the discovery of the body found in the search for a 15-year-old boy from Crawley yesterday.
