A man was taken to hospital after being slashed with a knife just days before Christmas.
Police were called to an incident in New Road in Brighton on the afternoon of December 22.
A man in his 40s was found with a serious injury to his hand and was taken to hospital for treatment.
A 44-year-old man from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Police have said there are believed to be many outstanding witnesses to the incident, which took place at around 12.30pm.
