New figures have revealed Sussex’s busiest and quietest railway stations.
The Office for National Statistics has published annual estimates of the number of entries/exits and interchanges at each station in Great Britain from April 2022 to March 2023.
These estimates are based primarily on ticket sales and are produced by the company Steer on behalf of the Office of Rail Regulation.
The data shows that Brighton is the busiest station in the county - and the 25th busiest in the country - while Doleham station, near Hastings and Rye, is the quietest.
Nationally, the most used station in the latest year was London Liverpool Street with an estimated 80.4 million entries and exits.
Birmingham New Street was the busiest station outside London with 30.7 million entries and exits.
Teesside Airport, which had its service suspended in May 2022, was the least used station with two entries and exits. Of stations that were open for the whole year, Denton in Greater Manchester was the least used with 34 entries and exits.
