A memorial has been unveiled for a long-serving councillor.
People gathered in the Meads area of Eastbourne to pay tribute to Barry Taylor on what would have been his 79th birthday.
Councillor Taylor was elected for Eastbourne Meads division at East Sussex County Council back in 2005 and served up until May this year before his death in June.
Family and friends unveiled a commemorative plaque on a Victorian lamp post to honour Cllr Taylor’s “enormous contribution to Eastbourne’s heritage and to the community” on December 14.
Friend and fellow councillor Robert Smart helped to organise the tribute said: “This is a much-deserved and long-lasting memorial for Barry who did so much to preserve the wonderful heritage of Meads during his 30 years’ service as a councillor."
Lynne Whittington, Cllr Taylor’s daughter, led the tributes as the commemorative plaque was unveiled.
Carols were sung while mince pies and mulled wine were distributed at the small ceremony.
Cllr Taylor was described by county council Leader Keith Glazer as someone who “always went out of his way to help others”.
