Plans to build more than 100 homes and a new nursery have been approved.

Metis Homes has been given the green light to build 103 new homes and a 70-place children’s nursery on a 15.8 acre largely brownfield site in Nutbourne, Chichester.

Located on the northern side of Main Road (A259), the site sits between an existing residential development and was formerly home to a scrapyard.

The developer said it has taken the development and design team over seven years of working alongside Chichester District Council and key stakeholders to reach the milestone.

Designed by JTP Architects, the scheme will comprise a mix of two-, three-, four- and five-bedroom homes and one- and two-bedroom apartments.

The development will include 20 per cent affordable housing, including the provision of “first homes”.

Metis said there will be a strong focus on biodiversity and “developing a green landscape”. The breaker's yard and associated buildings will be removed and the area restored to a natural landscape, enabling the creation of a multi-functional green corridor on the eastern part of the site.

There will also be a community orchard.

A children’s nursery will also be built to support childcare needs and create new employment opportunities.

The site is within easy walking distance to Southbourne village centre to the west.

Nutbourne and Southbourne train stations are equidistant with a ten-minute walk time and are on the main train line offering good connections to nearby Portsmouth and Brighton. There are also good bus links between Portsmouth City Centre and Bognor Regis. There is a direct connection to the dedicated cycle route on the northern side of the A259 and public footpath links to the wider public footpath network.
