A man suffered serious facial injuries when he was assaulted in a “targeted attack”.

The man in his 40s was assaulted in the early hours of the morning and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Witnesses are being sought after four people were seen in the area at the time.

Sussex Police DS Verity Spalding said: “The victim in this case is being supported by detectives as our enquiries continue.

“This is being treated as a targeted attack, and we do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the wider public.”

The attack was said to have taken place in Liverpool Road in Worthing near the Montague Centre at around 2am this morning.

A white woman in her 40s is believed to have been in the area at around 2am this morning and is said to be 5’ 5” and has a northern accent.

Another white woman wearing a black puffer jacket, a white man in his mid-40s and a 16-year-old boy were also identified.
