Rail services have been delayed and cancelled after a train struck an object on the track.
A Southern train hit the object just outside of Horsham, with the train unable to move.
The line towards Horsham is blocked, disrupting trains running between Horsham and Barnham.
Teams from Network Rail are on their way to investigate the incident.
Train companies are urging customers to allow at least an extra 30 minutes to complete journeys.
Tickets are being accepted at no extra cost on alternative Thameslink and Southern services between London and the west coast.
Disruption is expected until at least 8.30am.
