Rubbish and recycling collection dates are changing over the Christmas period.
For most areas, everything be collected as normal up to an including on Christmas Eve.
But in the week between Christmas and into the New Year there will be a few changes before normal service resumes.
This article will be updated when more councils release their dates.
Adur and Worthing

Arun
In Arun, collection dates will be shifted a day. So if your bin is usually collected on Monday it will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday on Wednesday and so on.
This will be the case from Monday, December 25, until Monday, January 8, when normal service resumes.
Brighton and Hove
Collection dates will be moved back in Brighton and Hove:
- Mondays – collections moved to Wednesday, December 27, Wednesday, January 3, and Tuesday, January 9.
- Tuesdays – collections moved to Thursday, December 28, Thursday, January 4 and Wednesday, January 10.
- Wednesdays – collections moved to Friday, December 29, Friday, January 5 and Thursday, January 11.
- Thursdays – collections moved to Saturday, December 30, Saturday, January 6 and Friday, January 12.
- Fridays – collections moved to Tuesday, January 2, Monday, January 8 and Saturday, January 13.
Collections return to normal from Monday, January 15.
Chichester
In Chichester, bins will be collected on the usual day in the run-up to the big day.
But there will be some changes in the week between Christmas and the New Year, and the first two weeks of January. Normal service will resume on the week commencing Monday, January 15.
- Mondays – collections moved to Wednesday, December 27, Wednesday, January 3, and Tuesday, January 9.
- Tuesdays – collections moved to Thursday, December 28, Thursday, January 4 and Wednesday, January 10.
- Wednesdays – collections moved to Friday, December 29, Friday, January 5 and Thursday, January 11.
- Thursdays – collections moved to Saturday, December 30, Saturday, January 6 and Friday, January 12.
- Fridays – collections moved to Tuesday, January 2, Monday, January 8 and Saturday, January 13.
Chichester District Council’s garden recycling service (which residents can use to recycle real Christmas trees) will stop on Friday, December 22 and will start again on Monday, January 8.
Crawley
TBC
Eastbourne
In Eastbourne, there are only a few changes to bin collection days.
- Monday, December 25 will be moved to Saturday, December 23.
- Tuesday, December 26 will be moved to Saturday, December 30.
There will be no change between Wednesday, December 27 and Friday, December 29.
Monday, January 1, will be moved to Saturday, January 6. Otherwise, all services will be the same.
People who opt in to the paid garden collection service can recycle their real Christmas tree by cutting it up and putting it into their brown bin.
There will also be a number of collection points, at Princes, Archery, Hampden and Gildredge Parks. And in Atlantic Drive, Fisherman’s Green, Treasure Island, Holly Place and Sevenoaks Road car parks.
Hastings
In Hastings, garden waste collections are suspended from Monday, December 25, until Monday, January 8.
For refuse and recycling, the changes are as follows:
- Mondays – collections moved to Wednesday, December 27, Wednesday, January 3 and Tuesday, January 9.
- Tuesdays – collections moved to Thursday, December 28, Thursday, January 4 and Wednesday, January 10.
- Wednesdays – collections moved to Friday, December 29, Friday, January 5 and Thursday, January 11.
- Thursdays – collections moved to Saturday, December 30, Saturday, January 6 and Friday, January 12.
- Fridays – collections moved to – Tuesday, January 2, Monday, January 8 and Saturday, January 13.
Waste and recycling collections return to normal from Monday, January 15.
Horsham
In Horsham, there will be no collections on Christmas and Boxing Day. Waste collection staff will be working on Saturdays – December 30, January 6 and January 13 to catch up.
Collections will return to normal from the week commencing January 15.
Residents are told to check online (https://www.horsham.gov.uk/waste-recycling-and-bins/household-bin-collections/check-your-bin-collection-day) as new dates vary depending on where you live.
Garden waste collections will be suspended over the festive period from the week commencing December 25 and will resume on Tuesday, January 9.
Lewes

Mid Sussex
In Mid Sussex, waste collection changes begin on Saturday, December 23, and end on Saturday, January 6.
- Mondays – Saturday, December 23 and Tuesday, January 2
- Tuesdays – Wednesday, December 27 and Wednesday, January 3
- Wednesdays – Thursday, December 28 and Thursday, January 4
- Thursdays – Friday, December 29 and Friday, January 5
- Fridays – Saturday, December 30 and Saturday, January 6
Mid Sussex Council is also opening 24 sites across the district where residents can drop off real Christmas trees to be recycled. The temporary sites will be open between Wednesday, January 3 and Wednesday, January 17.

Rother
In Rother, Christmas rubbish and recycling collections will be changed from the week beginning Monday, December 25 and will return to normal from Monday, January 15.
The additional paid-for garden waste service is suspended from Christmas day until Monday, January 8.

In Wealden, the changes will be:
- Mondays – collections moved to Wednesday, December 27, Wednesday, January 3 and Tuesday, January 9.
- Tuesdays – collections moved to Thursday, December 28, Thursday, January 4 and Wednesday, January 10.
- Wednesdays – collections moved to Friday, December 29, Friday, January 5 and Thursday, January 11.
- Thursdays – collections moved to Saturday, December 30, Saturday, January 6 and Friday, January 12.
- Fridays – collections moved to Tuesday, January 2, Monday, January 8 and Saturday, January 13.
Collections return to normal on the week beginning Monday, January 15.
