Brighton College has maintained its status as one of the top independent schools in the UK.

The Sunday Times has released its Parent Power Guide 2023, a list of the best schools in the UK.

It ranked Brighton College as the 11th best independent school, dropping down two places since last year.

It also placed the college as the fourth best independent school in the South East of England.

Staff at pupils have plenty to be proud of, said headmaster Richard Cairns, who took over at the helm in 2006 when the school was ranked 147th in the table.

“It is the consistency of excellence in pupil achievement that matters. Every school can have one good year – and what the last decade has shown is that outstanding teaching and learning is truly embedded in the life of the College,” said Mr Cairns.

“What impresses me most of all is that high-quality sport, drama, music, dance and so on are equally deep-rooted. Quite how pupils manage to excel in so many different arenas is beyond me.”

Brighton College has been in the top 20 best UK schools for the past 12 years running and was named The Sunday Times school of the decade in 2022.
