A row has erupted between the Green Party and Labour after Green activists campaigned in “Moulescoomb” over the weekend.

Labour accused Green candidate Sian Berry of getting lost and campaigning in Brighton Kemptown, rather than Brighton Pavilion where she is standing at the general election.

Information for an “action morning” on Saturday, December 2, listed an address in the Brighton Kemptown constituency as a meeting point, with Labour also noting that Moulsecoomb was also spelt incorrectly.

The campaigning event was titled “Saturday action morning Moulescoomb with Sian”.

However, Ms Berry dismissed the suggestion over being in the wrong constituency and described the claim as “bizarre”.

Councillor Jacob Taylor, who represents Labour in Moulsecoomb for Brighton and Hove City Council, said the Greens got the 'e' and 's' around the wrong way.

He said: “I know Sian is new to the town, but it seems like she’s got a bit lost.

“She had a campaign day in the Coombe Road area, which is in the Kemptown constituency, not Brighton Pavilion where she is standing.

“It’s interesting to see the Greens in Moulsecoomb and Bevendean, as they didn’t knock on a single door in the ward at the recent local elections.

“They’re obviously not very familiar with the area, as they’ve misspelt it.”

Sian Berry said that the host of the campaigning event lived in the Kemptown constituency, but that canvassing took place in the Pavilion part of Moulsecoomb.

She said: “Obviously, our team were out canvassing with me within the constituency boundaries.

“We got a great reception from residents on Saturday and our action day hosts, who live just on the other side of Lewes Road, were brilliant as always in warming us up afterwards with an excellent lunch.

“If anyone across the city would like to sign up to join us at future days of action, please get in touch.”

Parts of the Moulsecoomb and Bevendean ward to the west of Lewes Road are included in the Brighton Pavilion constituency, with the rest of the ward represented in Parliament by the MP for Brighton Kemptown.

Labour are yet to select their candidate for Brighton Pavilion at the next general election, with four activists vying to represent the party.

The party is expected to choose their candidate on December 16.
