A man has appeared in court charged with murder following a hit and run last weekend.

Kyle Dumble, 26, of no fixed address spoke only to confirm his name at a short hearing in Lewes Crown Court.

He is charged with murdering Jack Field, 24, in Hailsham last Saturday night (November 18) and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent against a man named Jake Barry.

Dumble is also charged with driving while disqualified and driving without insurance. He will appear in court again in the new year.

Emergency services were called to Western Road at around 11pm to reports of a car colliding with a pedestrian.

Mr Field, from Hailsham, died at the scene.

A 32-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder has been released on bail with strict conditions.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell said: “The investigation continues and our thoughts remain with the victim's family at this tragic time.

"I understand this has been a distressing incident for the whole community, and I would like to thank the public for their patience and support throughout the investigation.

"There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days.
