Hundreds of pounds in cash and equipment were stolen from a high street hair salon in an overnight raid.

Joshua Luke's in Worthing was closed yesterday while its staff tried to deal with the "awful aftermath".

Cash was taken from the till along with hairdressing equipment.

A spokesman for the salon said: "We are so upset that someone has done this to our safe and welcoming space.

"This event has challenged us but rest assured, we are resilient and determined to bounce back stronger."

The store in the High Street reopened today as customers shared their sympathy on social media.

Lainey Note wrote: "Why does it always happen to really lovely people who work so hard to make the salon a wonderful place to visit?"

Sussex Police were called to the shop at around 9am on Wednesday. A spokesman said: "A number of items were stolen, as well as hundreds of pounds worth of cash.

"Officers are appealing for witnesses. If you have any information, you are urged to report to police online or call 101 quoting serial 252 of 15/11."
