Work to transform a town’s tennis courts is well under way.

Worthing Borough Council has given an update on the refurbishment of the tennis courts at Church House Grounds in Tarring.

The council said all the main excavation of the site has now been completed and work to reconstruct the tennis court is continuing.

It hopes the courts will be fully resurfaced with temporary court markings and new nets in place within the next few weeks. The new fencing panels should also be fitted by that time so that the courts will be available to use.

The work is being funded through a partnership between Adur and Worthing Councils and the Lawn Tennis Association.

When the courts have been replaced, free tennis sessions will be run at the site to encourage people of all ages, playing levels and experience to get involved with the sport and all equipment will be provided.

The final colour finish for the courts and the permanent line markings will be applied in the new year when the conditions have improved.

The court surface has to be completely dry and above freezing temperatures for the new surface to be laid effectively,” the council said.
