A flood warning and seven alerts have been issued in Sussex.

The Environment Agency has warned that flooding is expected in Bersted on the Aldingbourne Rife and that properties are at risk.

A yellow weather warning for rain has been in place for the county since 12am and is due to end at 11am.

It said The Aldingbourne Rife is high and very slowly falling.

Flooding is still be affecting the car park at Tesco in Shripney Road and land and caravans at Riverside Caravan Centre and Rowan Park Caravan Park.

“Water will still affect fields near Shripney Lane and the A259, and some areas of Durban Road,” it said.

“Wednesday has been dry, which has allowed river levels to fall by a few centimetres. However, a lot of rain is forecast for Thursday (25-30mm, nearly a third of a month's rain) with more rain Saturday (10-20mm).

“The Aldingbourne Rife could rise by about 25cm. With the rest of November forecast to remain unsettled, the Aldingbourne Rife might not return to normal until December. Some roads will be affected by flood water, please plan to avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding, including Shripney Lane. We are running our pumps at Felpham and keeping grilles clear to help reduce the risk of flooding.”

There are also seven flood alerts in place:

  • Aldingbourne and Barnham Rifes
  • Climping Seafront
  • River Mole and its tributaries from Kinnersley Manor to South Hersham
  • Rivers Eden and Eden Brook
