Parts of a seafront walkway will be closed for weeks for repairs.

Work to clear loose rock and debris from a section of the Undercliff Walk between Roedean and Rottingdean will begin on Monday, November 13.

It is set to last for around six weeks this but could vary depending on the weather.

Specialist contractors will be abseiling down the undercliff between Roedean and Rottingdean ramps to carry out the repairs, which are a continuation of work which began in Saltdean in the spring.

They will use using hand scaling techniques to remove loose rock and material from the side of the cliff.

Parts of the path will be closed and diversions will be in place at times.

Visitors will still be able access chalets and the Ovingdean Beach Café.

The council said the work is being carried out because the cliffs are exposed to the harsh winds, rain and cold which, over time, causes them to erode.

To keep people safe, loose rocks will be removed to help prevent larger cliff falls.

The work also helps to maintain the angle of the slope which slows the cliffs’ erosion.

During periods of bad weather, such as in January of this year, large amounts of rocks fall on to the path below.
