Burning the Clocks is set to be the “biggest parade yet” this year.

The annual winter solstice tradition is set to return with plans to increase the size of the parade by 40 per cent.

The event will once again see giant paper lanterns being carried through the streets to celebrate the solstice and raise money for charity.

Artistic Director John Varah said: “Burning the Clocks is having its great reset, passing the time with ticking distractions, delightful nonsense, and a thousand illuminations; to render a few dark, silent hours even stiller.”

Rob Batson, executive producer at organisers Same Sky, added: “We’re excited to bring our biggest event and lantern parade to the streets of Brighton this year. It’s going to be spectacular with some incredible new puppets, music and performances from every corner of our wonderful community.”

More than 2,000 residents are expected take to the streets for this year’s campaign with the theme being “Clocks”.

More than 28,000 people are expected to line the streets for the event.

Burning the Clocks will take place on December 21 in Brighton city centre.
