Christmas shoppers can enjoy free parking on Saturdays in the run-up to December at a number of car parks in East Sussex.

Rother District Council announced the concessions for some of its off-street car parks in Battle, Bexhill, Little Common and Rye.

It comes after Arun District Council announced similar measures last week in a bid to encourage people to visit the area’s high streets for their Christmas shopping.

Starting on Saturday, November 18, for specific dates and at specific car parks charges will be suspended.

Free parking will be available at the following car parks on specific dates.

In Battle, Lower Market, Upper Market and Mount Street car parks will offer free parking:

  • All day on Saturday November 25, December 9 and December 16.
  • From 4pm on Thursday, December 7.

In Bexhill, De La Warr, Eversley Road, Manor Barn And Gardens, Town Hall,  Wainwright Road and War Memorial, parking charges will be suspended:

  • From 4pm on Friday, December 1
  • All day on Saturday, December 9, December 16 and December 23

Little Common car park will suspend charges:

  • From 4pm on Sunday, December 3
  • All day on Sunday, December 10, Saturday, December 16 and Friday, December 22

In Rye, parking will be free at Clinque Ports Street, The Strand, Bedford Place, Lucknow Place and Gibbet Marsh car parks at the follwing times:

  • From 4pm on Saturday, November 18
  • All day on Saturday, December 2, December 9 and December 16
